19 PopperThanks - Nov 22, 2004

Greetings from Las Vegas.  This particular Poppermost newsletter deals with giving (and saying) thanks.  While proof-reading the initial draft, we found that we got a little carried away with one word in particular (to the tune of starting to smell like a Grammy speech).  With that said, the first person to e-mail us with the correct number of times the word "thank(s)" is used in this newsletter will win a FREE copy of "Myself," the first single (which includes non-album tracks you can't hear anywhere else) from Absolutely Sonic. Good luck!

The response we've gotten since the release of Absolutely Sonic has been great, and we'd like to thank all of you for believing in the music.  Thanks a million for supporting the band in such overwhelming numbers.  For anyone who'd like to take our new music for a test drive, check out http://www.radioindy.com/jamroom/bands/43/music.php and listen to some of the new songs.  We want to hear what you think.  You can also hear our latest single "Myself" by going to http://www.rateourband.com/rb/index.cfm?band_id=2336.  Let us know what you think of the song (and Roy's groovy graphic work) by voting for it.

The band wishes to give thanks for a few days off.  Roy is moving house and home, including Trimordial Studio (again).  Alex is enjoying the deluxe special DVD edition of The Kids Are Alright (a great rocumentary on one of his major influences, The Who).  And Phil is in storage (to be taken out and thawed at a later date).  The next musical projects include more local gigs (dates to be announced), recording a special Valentine's Day single currently titled "(I Wish You Were) Somebody Else's Girl," and a "mini opera" currently entitled "The Bigger Kids."

We'd also like to give thanks for continued airplay support in the United Kingdom, as well as here in the States.  "Catch Me If I Fall" and "Bang Bang" from Absolutely Sonic are being featured on the UK's Radio Gets Wild and Kooba Radio.  Special thanks to Dee (listen to her show on Sundays and Wednesdays at RGW http://www.RadioGetsWild.com/) for calling the new CD "absolutely brilliant," and to Jonny and Alex from Kooba http://www.KoobaRadio.co.uk/ for including us in a special musical tribute to legendary UK disc jockey John Peel.  You can hear that show from one of these links: http://www.koobaradio.co.uk/20041103b_ver2.m3u for 56K or http://www.koobaradio.co.uk/20041103a_ver2.m3u for broadband.

Last, but definitely not least, we want to send thanks out to Laurie Steele of KOMP 92.3 FM http://komp.com/ and all the Poppermost fans that turned up at the November 6th Homegrown Showcase at Pink E's.  We had fun playing the new songs.  Special thanks to local rock band, Cherry Hill, for their camaraderie and great music (with a side of 3 part harmony).  Check out their site at http://thecherryhillband.com/, you won't be disappointed.  Special hellos and thanks to the "elegantly wasted" fans from our NY Cafe gig.

That's it for now from Poppermost HQ.  Remember to enjoy your Thanksgiving Day feast without regret or remorse, giving thanks for your bounty, whatever it may be.

Thanks for your support,
Alex, Roy, and Phil of Poppermost

Poppermost Release 10/21/04

Hi all,

Poppermost here with a quick gig reminder for any of you guys that care to enjoy some rockingly great music for an evening or two, whatever fits your schedule.

But first, a quick correction to the previous email.  It would appear that 3 o'clock in the morning is not the best time to be drawing ASCII maps!  Not only did east and west accidentally get switched on the directional pointer, the venue appeared to be a stand alone building.  So saying, please note that the NY Cafe is actually located on the east side of Paradise Rd, rather than the west (as that map seems to indicate), and that it is in the Rodeo Paradise shopping center.

So now a quick list of where you can find us in the near future.

NY Cafe
Saturday, October 23rd, 11pm until we drop (about 2am or so)
4080 Paradise Rd, Las Vegas (north of Flamingo, in Rodeo Paradise shopping center)
702-796-0589
Free, 21+ only

Pink E's
Homegrown Showcase hosted by Laurie Steele
featuring Gravy, Cherry Hill, and Poppermost
Saturday, November 6th, 10:30pm till 2:00am
3695 W Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas (across from the Rio)
702-252-4666
Free, 21+ only

There are more shows in the works, so be sure to stay tuned.

For you folks who haven't had a chance to check out our web site for more Absolutely Sonic album info, here's a little something to whet your curiosity.

Old in influence, but new and inventive in spirit, Absolutely Sonic is a muscular 12-song collection of high-voltage, catchy rock about "living life on your own terms."  Highly infused with snarling guitars, infectious rhythms, clever lyrics, and classic 70's FM rock spirit, the sonic journey to "absolute rock and roll heart" is not for the faint of heart.

The tracks:
1. "Sonic" - 13-second "your attention, please" lead in
2. "Myself "- swaggering hard rock song about "life at the bar"
3. "Erika" - rock song about a modern working woman and her end-of-the-day loneliness
4. "She Let Go" - upbeat rock/pop anti-love song about "relationship meltdown" and self preservation
5. "Catch Me If I Fall" - "the pitfalls of pride" wrapped in a hard rock shell
6. "Let It Shine" - rock and roll "advert" for living life on your own terms
7. "Blood and Luck" - the aftermath of love, dressed like the Byrds
8. "Butterfly Inside A Jar" - acoustic track about feeling trapped and unable to soar
9. "Whiskey Flat" - tribute to Sam Philips and the sound of Sun Records
10. "Bang Bang" - southern-fried slide-driven rock song about finding success and self-fulfillment
11. "Stickfigure Girlfriend" - rock/pop song about a man creating the ultimate woman companion using pencils and crayons
12. "This Time Tomorrow" - tribal drum-based rocker condemning the lies and secrets of a past lover
13. A special bonus track you can only know about if you have the album!

Now that you have an idea of the content, go check out the cool review by Las Vegas Weekly where they compared us to Oasis, Jet, and The Hives. http://www.lasvegasweekly.com/2004/10/14/aande.html.

To get it, you can order it from us via pop@poppermost.com or call 702-384-0306.  Or you can hear a sample of the music, then order it online at CD Baby http://www.cdbaby.com/poppermost4 or http://www.towerrecords.com/.

Poppermost Release 9/25/04

Poppermost, Las Vegas' rising indie "retro" alternative rock trio, is pleased to announce the release of "a most bodacious collection of tunes," otherwise known as Absolutely Sonic, their long awaited second full-length album, on October 9, 2004.

Old in influence, but new and inventive in spirit, Absolutely Sonic is a muscular 12-song collection of high-voltage, catchy rock about "living life on your own terms."  Highly infused with snarling guitars, infectious rhythms, clever lyrics, and the spirit of classic 70's FM rock, the sonic journey to "absolute rock and roll heart" is not for the faint of heart.

The "Absolutely Sonic Tour" to promote the new album is currently being planned.  For pre-orders, tour information, and news, please visit http://www.poppermost.com/ or e-mail: pop@poppermost.com.

Poppermost Release 9/1/04

Greetings everyone. To quote John Lennon, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans," and we've had a big dose of life since we last wrote.  Here are just some of the highlights.

Because of the hundreds of votes awarded to "Bang Bang" on RadioIndy.com, Poppermost was chosen as "Featured Artist of the Week" for an extra couple of weeks back in June.  Now we just found out that they're giving us a chance to compete again in their favorite song contest, this time using "Erika" for the voting.  We ask for your help by voting again, once each day, at http://www.RadioIndy.com/ on the left hand side of the front page for the opportunity of extra exposure to the winner.  And speaking of "Erika," she is also holding steady with 4.5 out of 5 stars on http://www.RateOurBand.com/.  You guys really do make us look good... as we continue to do our best to defy "conventional wisdom" about the distribution of music online, etc.  Thanks a million for supporting the band in such overwhelming numbers.

The band is currently in Roy's Trimordial Studio (he's definitely glad to be back in business) mixing the songs that will make up the new CD, currently titled Absolutely Sonic.  The original idea for a concept album tentatively titled Kill Ugly Radio, and then hotwireless for a little while, was abandoned for a more streamlined, muscular collection of songs about "jacking it all in and living life on your own terms," says Alex.  And what of the radio jingles and adverts written and recorded for the original album?  "They'll eventually be available as B-sides and special 'limited time only' downloads for those fans who are total music junkies like me," is his answer.

"When are we gonna make some noise, already? I'm half past ready, already," is Phil's unrelenting mantra about playing live.  Expect a fall release for Absolutely Sonic (another plug for the new CD), followed by a flurry of live performances towards the year's end.  If there's a venue you'd like to see us whip into a manic musical frenzy, please feel free to e-mail us your suggestion.

Eureka!  We've struck U.K. radio again!  We are pleased to announce that several Poppermost songs are being featured on the U.K.'s http://www.RadioGetsWild.com/.  If it's a truly great alternative to "ugly radio" you seek, get wild!  Tell 'em Poppermost sent ya, ya hear?

Last, but definitely not least, we want to send a shout out to all the Poppermost fans that turned up at our summer concert at An San Park at the end of June.  We had fun playing the new songs, as well as some of your favorite classic "album cut" rock tunes while watching all of the kids dance with their parents.  And then we got swollen heads from new fans asking us to autograph their new copies of "Erika."  Special thanks to Brian Kendall and the sound crew for, once again, giving it their all.

That's it for now from Poppermost HQ. Once again, thank you for the positive vibes, great e-mails, and support!  We love you back, and we'll keep you tuned-in about the whens, wheres, and hows of Absolutely Sonic (yes, this is just one more shameless plug for the new CD, folks)!

Thanks for your support,
Alex, Roy, and Phil of Poppermost

Okay guys, it's a quick note and then you can get back to the rest of your email.

18 Poppermost News - April 2004

Greetings and Salutations, Y'all!
We at Poppermost would like to send our warmest greetings and salutations to our family, friends, and fans all over the world; literally.  It seems that this thing called the "Internet" has allowed us to make new friends and fans from as far away as the U.K., Germany, Sweden, and Australia.  Since we last chatted, Poppermost has been picked up by a couple more internet radio stations.  Greg Mikszta and Manny Vacchiano of RadioINDY http://www.radioindy.com/, based out of San Diego, recently honored us as the Featured Artist with "Bang Bang" being their favorite song.  Then there's Roy Sandbrook's Only Alternative show where you can hear "Wishing Well" on Monday and Wednesday nights at http://www.streamingradio.co.uk/.  Links to all the stations playing Poppermost can be found on our web site (address found below).  By tuning in you can help us say thanks to these guys for their support of indie artists.

". . . and I would like to thank my mother . . ."
While we've been busy practicing our speeches for next year's Grammys, MTV Awards, and Emmys for Best Comedy, our very own Roy Al Rendahl has taken home the coveted Gold and Silver Duckys Awards from Dr. Duck http://www.ducksdeluxe.com/, and the prestigious Web Design Award from DesignFirms.org http://www.designfirms.org/ who found his work on the Poppermost site to be "among the best on the Internet."  Score three points for Roy, our "Lil' Mad Scientist."

Poppermost Still in "Radio" Mode!
Recording sessions continue for upcoming Poppermost CD.  The original plan was to call it Kill Ugly Radio, but that was before we realized Frank Zappa beat us to the punch.  We'll still take a stab at corporate radio, but just under a different title.  Whatever it turns out to be, we're shooting for a June release.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Speaking of radio "themes," the winners of last issue's contest were Terri Hansen of Minnesota, Dustin Johnson of local band eXcessive Compulsive, and Larry "O" Alexman of Los Angeles. Each has won a free copy of our Erika CD-45.  Pop on, and thanks for playing!

Cheers!
Spring has been sprung!  Love and allergies fill the air.  Let there be antihistamines in the street and necking in the balcony!  We will be sure to keep you posted on Poppermost news and information.  And last, but not least, something to ponder...

Remember: amateurs built the Ark; professionals built the Titanic.

Thanks,
Poppermost
Alex Oliver, Roy Al Rendahl, and Phil Kaz

17 Poppermost News Jan 2004

To the press - for immediate release please:
To our fans - please enjoy the news:
______________________________

Peas On Earth, Gouda Wheel, Two Men
We at Poppermost would like to send our warmest greetings and salutations to our family, friends, and fans all over.  Happy New Year, folks!  The new year finds Roy re-building Trimordial Studio after a home / studio relocation that ate up his entire Christmas / New Year holiday (watch for a studio warming party invitation), Alex collecting bits for the up-coming record (if you can still get away with calling a collection of songs a record), and Phil rested from his recent move, single and ready to mingle!  We hope you had a bitchin' holiday and are ready to tackle 2004 with us.  Ooh, can't you just feel the energy building up, ready to pop?  Alrighty, then.  Let's pop!

Radio 7- Just A Little "Left of the Dial"
Poppermost hijacks the airwaves of "dull" commercial radio on their next CD.  Tentatively called Kill Ugly Radio, the songs from the CD are broadcast from fictitious rebel pirate station Radio 7, complete with radio jingles and mock adverts for strange products.  When questioned about the concept, Alex told us, "In general, most commercial radio sucks these days.  I want to take what I used to love about radio as a kid, and pay tribute to my memories of how great radio used to be."

If anyone is really reading this section, you can win a free copy of "Erika" if you can name at least 2 other artists who have also used the "radio" concept for a full-length album or CD.  Send in your answers by 2-29-04 (yes, it's a Leap Year).

Radio U.K., Baby!
In addition to radio play on KOMP, KLAV, KNRY, eoRadio, Radio Free Exile, and more, now we get to add overseas to our list.  On December 3, 2003, Poppermost was broadcast to the United Kingdom for the first time. Bang Bang, the opening song from Poppermost's self-titled debut, had the privilege of being played on England's Kooba Radio http://www.koobaradio.co.uk. The show, called The Jonny Yeah Show: 3 Non-Blondes, is a hilarious program that combines great indie music (insert shameless pat on the back for Poppermost) and chat to create a dynamite radio show. Even though the link for 12/3 program isn't visible on the site anymore, you can access it by clicking on http://www.koobaradio.co.uk/20031203b.m3u for dial-up or http://www.koobaradio.co.uk/20031203a.m3u for broadband; get hip to our kindly tip and check out Kooba Radio. Not only is it a cool internet station, we will be there again, and what better reason could there be to listen?

Dashing Thru The Snow, In a Stolen Chevrolet
It snowed in hell (For Real! It snowed overnight on Dec 30-31 here in Sin City), and we'd like to get in some quick thank yous, in case this really is the end of the world! So, thank you, friends and fans, for your support of Poppermost. Thanks to all of you who came out and supported us during the past year in the clubs and bars, the cafes, and City Hall. Thanks to everyone who took the time to e-mail us (some of you, quite literally, from the other side of the planet). Thanks to those who allowed us to play your venues, and those new characters who took the chance to talk with us after our shows. We love you!

If not for you, then there is no us.

Poppermost
Alex Oliver, Roy Al Rendahl, and Phil Kaz
