Welcome
to the Popperlist
Hello boys
and girls in cybervisionland and welcome to the second
edition of the Poppermost newsletter. Removal instructions,
if
you want them, are at the bottom of this email.
In
addition to a party event and great news, we have a cool new
editorial section from Alex. He insisted on some space and
since
he's bigger than the rest of us, we weren't going to argue!
Besides, he promised to keep it short and sweet. If
he
doesn't appear in next month's edition, you'll know he blew it!
For all you new subscribers who don't yet know the who and
how of
Poppermost, visit <http://www.thefaro.com/poppermost.html>
to get a little bit of history on the band and to find out other ways
to hear our music.
Christmas
Video Shoot Party
First in
our news, we're having a party! As many of you know,
we're trying to get paying gigs since paying the bills on admiration
alone is a bit difficult. Reaching that goal includes making
a
video showing what we do. We are working on a concept video
for
one of our songs now, but we really need a live performance video.
So, a Christmas and Video Shoot Party is in order and you're
invited to be a part of it. We need your help, please, on
Tuesday, December 18, 2001, starting about 8:30 pm or 8:45 pm at Money
Plays. The address is 4755 W Flamingo (just east of Decatur)
in
Las Vegas NV. We're poor, so you have to buy your own beer or
soda at the bar, but we'll provide the entertainment and some munchies
to complete the festivities. It's free, so all you have to do
is
show up and be ready to party.
Moving on,
the two performances mentioned in the last issue (a House
Concert and the House of Blues) were wonderful, even if we do say so
ourselves! Thanks to all who were able to attend.
To those
who couldn't be there, thank you for your continued support in other
ways, but boy oh boy, did you miss a lot of fun and great music.
Not only did Poppermost rock both "Houses" to the rafters, so
did
many other wonderful artists. We're not going to get too
long-winded about all the details, because let's face it, if you
weren't there, no amount of detail can fill you in on the excitement
you missed. You'll just have to visit us the next time and
find
out what it's all about! That's Dec. 18th, of course.
Okay,
that's enough "news" for now. We promised our leader
some space, so

Pops Off
When I
learned of George Harrison's passing on November 30 of this
year, the big-screen television at my place of work showed a montage of
photos. The accompanying song the network chose to play was
"Here
Comes the Sun." I stood there, watching and listening to it,
with
tears in my eyes. For me, that song has a strong connection
to
this particular time of the year.
Christmas
time, 1976: I had just turned 7, and my mother had just given
me what would be the first installment of my favorite Christmas gifts,
Beatles records. The first of this prized collection included
a
"best of" album set called "The Beatles 1967-1970." Christmas
morning, for me, will forever be the sounds of the opening guitar lines
of "Here Comes the Sun," which was written and played by George
Harrison. The song conjures within me the love of family, and
the
closeness we rarely had during the other 364 days of the
year. It
also reminds me of my musical roots, and why I chose to be a musician
in the first place. George Harrison is a very big part of
that.
Christmas
time is here again. Scores of Christmas classics
like
"White Christmas," "I'll Be Home For Christmas," John Lennon's "Happy
Xmas," and many versions of "Merry Christmas Baby" are playing in
shopping centers and everywhere else. For the next few weeks,
you'll no doubt be hearing Beatles music as well. Listen to
the
joy and hope in "Here Comes the Sun," and go on your way a bit better
off.
Let us
know what you thought of Alex's column; maybe next month we'll
feature Roy Al Rendahl talking about "I'm a Mac man!"
Seriously
though, we'll let him talk about whatever he wishes.

Formed in
July 2001, Poppermost currently consists of singer /
songwriter and guitarist, Alex Oliver, along with bassist, Roy Al

response, "...to the toppermost of the poppermost." Alex is a
veteran of several popular Los Angeles based pop rock bands of the
1990's, including Junetown and Clover Club. Roy's music
experience spans the 70's and 80's in Minnesota with a wide range of
genres including psychadelic-jazz-rock, pop rock, R&B, and
country-rock in bands such as Blooze Union, Peppermint Love, The Barb
Timm Band, Changes, and Sweetwater; and in the 90's doing audio and
video recording in California.
